Some fine strikers have played for Chelsea in their history, even before the big-money signings of the Roman Abramovich era, but superb summer signing Diego Costa already looks well on his way to establishing himself as one of the Blues’ best ever after his fine start to life at Stamford Bridge.

8) Diego Costa

With nine goals in his first seven Premier League games, Diego Costa has been on fire since joining Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in a £32m deal this summer. Although it is early days yet, his form in La Liga last year was equally superb and if he carries on like this he could quickly climb up to become one of the club’s best-ever strikers, competing with some other real Stamford Bridge legends in this list.

7) Eidur Gudjohnsen

A fine player for Chelsea in the early 00s, Eidur Gudjohnsen won two Premier League titles in his time at Stamford Bridge, finding the back of the net 78 times in six seasons – a decent record for a player who often dropped deep to link up with his team-mates and get assists. A superb all-round forward who later went on to play for Barcelona.

6) Nicolas Anelka

Also a great striker for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers in a superb Premier League career, Nicolas Anelka perhaps found his best form during a four-year stay with Chelsea. The Frenchman scored 59 goals during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning the Golden Boot in 2008/09 and helping the club to the double in 2009/10.

5) Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

One of the most clinicial players in recent Premier League history, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was one of Chelsea’s star players prior to Roman Abramovich’s purchase of the club in 2003, scoring a superb 87 goals in just four seasons at Stamford Bridge having previously impressed at the likes of Leeds United and Atletico Madrid.

4) Jimmy Greaves

One of English football’s all-time greats, Jimmy Greaves started his superb career at Chelsea and is still among their highest goalscorers of all time with 132 strikes to his name in total, though he is more noted for his later and even better spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

With an incredible 193 goals for Chelsea, Kerry Dixon is undoubtedly one of the club’s all-time greats, and is still third in their all-time list of leading goalscorers after a great career with the Blues.

2) Bobby Tambling

Recently overtaken as Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer by prolific midfield legend Frank Lampard, Bobby Tambling scored a phenomenal 202 goals for the club in his time at Stamford Bridge, playing for the Blues between 1959 and 1970.

1) Didier Drogba

Although only fourth in terms of all-time goals scored for Chelsea with 157, there are few bigger legends than Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge, with the veteran Ivory Coast star inspiring the club’s greatest night as they won the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2012. Drogba scored a late, late equaliser in the final before then netting the crucial penalty kick to win the shoot-out, and he is truly one of the most talented forwards to grace the Premier League.
