At this early stage, nobody can predict how these forgotten new boys will do, but they will all be hoping to make a name for themselves in the coming years.

7) Federico Fernández – Swansea City
Fernández was considered one of Argentina’s great defensive talents at Estudiantes, and moved to Napoli in 2011. After playing fairly reguarly, he lost his place under Rafa Benitez and was loaned out to Getafe last year. He played three times for Argentina at the World Cup, and has recently broken into the Swansea first team.

6) Florin Gardos – Southampton
The Romanian centre-back moved to the Premier League after a strong season at Steau Bucharest, where he had replaced the Spurs-bound Vlad Chiriches. His good performances in the Champions League attracted Southampton’s attention. He has played only 47 minutes in the Premier League so far, but impressed in the Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal.

5) Dionatan Teixiera – Stoke City
The 22-year-old Brazilian born defender was signed for £400,000 after a successful trial. Teixiera moved to Slovakia when he was 16, and now finally has the passport that has allowed to move to the Premier League. He has yet to make an appearance for the Potters.

4) Brian Lenihan – Hull City
Lenihan was called up to the Republic of Ireland squad today to replace the injured Seamus Coleman. Much like Coleman, Lenihan is a young right back who has moved from the League of Ireland to the Premier League for a modest fee; he can only hope his career in England progresses as quickly as Coleman’s has at Everton.

Swansea beat off interest from other clubs to secure the signing of the prolific Gambian forward. The 21-year-old will have to wait for his shot at the first team, with both Wilfried Bony and Bafetima Gomis providing competition for minutes up front.
