With league and European campaigns properly underway all over Europe right now, we felt it apt to compile our World XI based on this season’s performances only…

While some predictable names make the side, a star from both Marseille and Wolfsburg has also been selected.

What do you think…?

GK) Claudio Bravo – Barcelona

Astonishingly, the summer signing has yet to concede a goal yet for his new club – with Barcelona only letting some in during the Champions League, when he was rested for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

DR) Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea

As excellent going forward as he is ferocious at the back. Ivanovic is jaw-droppingly consistent, and the epitome of a world-class solid right-back.

DC) Nicolas N’Koulou – Marseille

The French side have taken Ligue 1 by storm so far, and are currently five points clear at the top. Star centre-back N’Koulou has marshalled the defence superbly, and it’s surely only a matter of time before one of Europe’s biggest clubs secures his signature.

DC) Jerome Boateng – Bayern Munich

There are few better, right now. Boateng rarely ever gives the ball away, and has the composure to step out of defence and start attacks. He’ll be a cornerstone of Bayern Munich’s probable Bundesliga win this term.

DL) Ricardo Rodriguez – Wolfsburg

The young Swiss was exceptional last season, and he’s started this term in the same vein. Bagging three goals so far, Rodriguez’s bombarding runs up the left have led to one assist too. He’s already one of the best in the business.

MC) Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea

No player in Europe has assisted more league goals (7) than Chelsea’s summer signing. His deft touch and creative vision has transformed the Blues into a totally different side from last term.

MC) Xabi Alonso – Bayern Munich

Why on earth did Real Madrid let this footballing phenomenon go…? Alonso has taken the Bundesliga by storm. He averages 125.3 passes per game, by far the most in Europe, and has been a sensational creative influence from the base of midfield as well.

AMR) Neymar – Barcelona

Neymar is coming seriously good for Barcelona. Already this term, he’s notched seven goals in the league and one in Europe, outscoring Lionel Messi. That virtually never happens at Barcelona!

AMC/FC) Lionel Messi – Barcelona

Messi’s played a deeper, more creative role for Los Cules this term under Luis Enrique, but it’s made him so much more effective than in 2013/14 when he was often isolated up top. Messi’s scored and assisted seven goals apiece in La Liga and Europe so far.

AML) Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid

The first name on our World XI team-sheet, Ronaldo has scored an almost offensive 15 goals in eight starts so far this season. If he carries on at this rate, he’ll finish the season with triple figures!

FC) Diego Costa – Chelsea

Nine goals in his first seven Premier League starts for Costa. The £32m summer signing is incomparably powerful, works hard, and can finish off either foot. There are no better out and out centre-forwards than the Spaniard right now.
