5) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

With nine goals in eight games already this season, Porto striker Jackson Martinez continues to impress and looks a target well worth pursuing for Arsenal. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the Colombian international, who looks a better bet than Cavani and possibly as much as £30m cheaper.

4) Paco Alcacer (Valencia)

A striker attracting plenty of interest at the moment, Arsenal should rival Chelsea and Tottenham for the signing of Valencia youngster Paco Alcacer. The 21-year-old Spaniard would be a more long-term investment than Cavani and is sure to attract more interest from top clubs if he carries on his fine scoring rate.

3) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

Linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton throughout the summer, Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is another up-and-coming talent who looks like he could fit in perfectly at the Emirates Stadium. The Frenchman is in far better form than Cavani at the moment and can also play out wide if needed, adding more variety to the Gunners’ attack.

2) Mattia Destro (AS Roma)

Linked strongly with Chelsea throughout the summer, AS Roma striker Mattia Destro has also come up on Arsenal’s radar in recent times and could be a superb signing if they beat other top clubs to his signature. The young Italian has looked excellent since his breakthrough last season and may have more potential than Cavani at the moment.

1) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

A proven world class striker, Karim Benzema has consistently delivered for Real Madrid unlike Cavani who has not been the same since moving to a ‘big’ club. The Frenchman has been linked with Arsenal several times and is now supposedly a target for Liverpool, as well as for Paris Saint-Germain as they look to replace Cavani, which tells you everything you need to know. Arsene Wenger should act fast to snap up the Bernabeu star before anyone else does.
