Wantaway Chelsea Star Linked With AS Roma Move

The Italian club are looking to make a move for the newly redundant goalkeeper.

Roma are enjoying an exceptional season so far, despite losing to Juventus at the weekend, and are looking to build on their success by moving decisively in the January transfer window.

According to the Metro, Roma have opened talks with Chelsea about keeper Petr Cech, who has only made two appearances this year after being displaced by the arrival of Belgian star Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea are keen to get rid of Cech because of his large wages and the fact that he is occupying one of Chelsea’s international slots. This is a growing concern for the Blues, who only have Gary Cahill, John Terry and Cesc Fabregas in the squad as “homegrown players”. They would likely look to replace Cech with an English keeper, possibly even a veteran, much as Manchester City have done with Richard Wright, who has been with the Citizens since 2012 without making an appearance.

Morgan de Sanctis is Roma’s current keeper, and he has been in excellent form this season, which makes the move somewhat surprising. Plenty of other clubs, including Monaco, Real Madrid and PSG, were rumoured to be interested in Cech over the summer.
