The Detroit Lions face their divisional rivals the Minnesota Vikings in a crunch clash at the TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday hoping to improve on their 3-2 record.

However, the visitors will have to do so without two of their big offensive threats, with both wide receiver Calvin Johnson and running back Reggie Bush expected to sit out with ankle injuries.

Golden Tate will likely continue to step up as a primary target for quarterback Matthew Stafford, but after their shock late loss to the Buffalo Bills last weekend, things could be getting a little rocky for the Lions at just the wrong time with NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers, finding their rhythm and putting them under pressure at the top.

Nevertheless, they will have an opportunity to put things right on Sunday afternoon when they face the Vikings, although the hosts should have rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater back in contention.

Bridgewater threw for 317 yards while adding a rushing touchdown in a 41-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons in his first career start, but after suffering a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter, Christian Ponder struggled badly in the heavy loss to the Packers last time out.

The Detroit defense leads the NFL in total yards allowed per game with 282.4 and is also tied for the league lead in fewest first downs allowed per game with 17.2 while ranking second in points allowed at 15.8 per game.

However, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is confident that Bridgewater will be able to stand up to the challenge and will hope his team can repeat their effort from last season in a 14-13 win over the Lions.
