Here’s how rated the England players today…

GK) Joe Hart – 6

Barely touched the ball, and certainly didn’t have a save of note to make.

DR) Calum Chambers – 5

Poor. Chambers gave fouls away, and misplaced his passes on more than a few occasions, one of which ended up in Henderson getting booked as he tried to reach the sloppy ball.

DL) Leighton Baines – 6

Not as offensive a threat as he can be, Baines still managed to get forward up the left and overlap the midfielders, although his crossing wasn’t brilliant.

DC) Phil Jagielka – 6

A very quiet evening for the Everton man, just like it was for the rest of the England defence. Won his aerial duels, and passed the ball simply.

DC) Gary Cahill – 6

Too easy a match to rate Cahill any higher, although he didn’t put a foot wrong.

MC) Jack Wilshere – 8

England’s best player on the night. The Englishman controlled tempo from the base of midfield, but also got forward and played clever zipped passes in the final third.

MC) Fabian Delph – 5

Not nearly as impressive as his England debut V Switzerland. Delph gave the ball away, and looked a step below Wilshere and Henderson.

MC) Jordan Henderson – 6

Energetic, and marshalled England’s midfield. Was withdrawn early in the second-half for the more offensive Raheem Sterling.

AMC) Adam Lallana – 7

Almost had a very good game. The Liverpool man was lively in possession, and buzzed about the final third, but he couldn’t quite finish his mazy runs with genuine end product. Still promising, however.

FC) Danny Welbeck – 5

Very poor. Welbeck looked lethargic, and made very few promising or telling runs that would have created space for his teammates.

FC) Wayne Rooney – 7

Had a poor first-half, but came to England’s rescue in the second with a free-kick that snuck inside the near post. He’s closing in on the all-time England goal record.

SUBS:

Raheem Sterling – 6 – Injected pace and running into the final third.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6 – Less of a threat than Sterling, but had an impact nonetheless.

Rickie Lambert – n/a – No time to make a difference.
