Ten Most Overpaid Premier League Players: Manchester United Captain And Arsenal Duo Earning Far Too Much

Ten Premier League stars who are earning far too much.

The wages of Premier League footballs are often a huge talking point, with many feeling that the finest footballers in the country are paid a little too much for what is, essentially, kicking a ball around.

Whilst it easy to argue that the top players in the division have earned their payslips, however, it is a little harder to make a case for these ten:

Scott Sinclair (Manchester City – £55,000 per week)

As career moves go, joining Manchester City wasn’t the best from winger Scott Sinclair, with the club not really having gotten value out of Sinclair’s 11 Premier League appearances in two seasons.

Mark Schwarzer (Chelsea – £50,000 per week)

Experienced Australian international goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer isn’t bad as a third choice goalkeeper – but this wage certainly seems excessive from Chelsea.

Anderson (Manchester United – £60,000 per week)

Paying Brazilian midfielder Anderson anything for his contribution at Old Trafford in the last two or three years would probably be too much, but this figure is just galling for United.

Nacho Monreal (Arsenal – £50,000 per week)

As cover at left back, Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal isn’t terrible, but there are competent first choice Premier League players earning far less than this.

Jose Enrique (Liverpool – £65,000 per week)

Another back up left back from one of the big boys, Liverpool’s Jose Enrique is a solid enough player but earning far more than his ability warrants at Anfield.

Darren Bent (Aston Villa – £65,000 per week)

Former England international striker Darren Bent is rarely used by Paul Lambert these days – and when he is, Bent rarely justifies his wage packet.

Sylvain Marveaux (Newcastle United – £60,000 per week)

Newcastle United are generally known to run a tight ship financially under the unpopular Mike Ashley regime – but clearly Sylvain Marveaux’s contract slipped through the net.

Matija Nastasic (Manchester City – £75,000 per week)

We actually rate Matija Nastasic as one of the finest young defenders in the Premier League, but for a player not getting the game time at the Etihad Stadium, his wage is obscene.

Abou Diaby (Arsenal – £65,000 per week)

French midfielder Abou Diaby is actually reasonable enough when he is fit – but that’s the problem. Arsenal are essentially paying him to continually get injured.

Wayne Rooney (Manchester United – £300,000 per week)

We aren’t doubting Wayne Rooney’s quality, with much of the recent criticism of him having been over the top, but to justify this wage he would have to be the most exciting, game changing player ijn the league and simply isn’t.
