Manchester United News Roundup: Cristiano Ronaldo Will Cost €1bn, Real Madrid Star Reveals He Rejected The Red Devils And Defender Will Sign In January

Tuesday’s biggest stories for the Red Devils.

Aston Villa will have to double Ron Vlaar’s wages to stop him joining Manchester United in January

The future of the centre-back remains in doubt at Villa Park as the Red Devils maintain their interest in signing the 29-year-old.

Villa are in a difficult position as Vlaar’s current contract expires next summer and even their improved offer of £50,000-a-week is unlikely to convince the Netherlands international to stay, according to the Daily Star.

As a result the Birmingham side may be forced to sell the defender in January in order to make some money from him, with £4m thought to be enough to clinch the deal.

United to give David de Gea a £30m contract to ward off Real Madrid interest

The Spanish giants have been strongly linked with the goalkeeper, who they see as the ideal replacement for out of form captain Iker Casillas.

However, the 13-time Premier League champions are desperate to keep hold of de Gea and will offer him a £120,000-a-week deal over five years to keep him at Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.

The 23-year-old has been impressing in recent times and therefore his current side want to tie him down to a new contract, with his present one expiring in 2016.

Raphael Varane rejected a move to the Red Devils in 2011

The Madrid defender has revealed that back in 2011 the Frenchman turned down a move to the Theatre of Dreams because the English side had just signed Phil Jones.

Jones joined from Blackburn Rovers that summer and Varane – who was at Lens at the time – was convinced to head to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu instead.

“Manchester United? They had just signed Phil Jones in my position,” the 21-year-old was quoted by the Daily Mail.

Wayne Rooney planning Wembley Stadium celebration if he becomes the youngest England player to reach 100 caps

Rooney earned his 99th cap for his country on Sunday as he scored the only goal in a 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Estonia.

At 28-years-old the forward will be the youngest ever Three Lions player to reach a century of caps if he plays against Slovenia in an international friendly next month.

“It will be a great honour to get 100 caps for England. I will be excited and looking forward to that game. My two boys will walk out on to the pitch with me,” Rooney was quoted by the Daily Express.

It will cost €1bn to sign Cristiano Ronaldo says his agent

Super-agent Jorge Mendes says his most prestigious client Ronaldo will never leave Madrid and it would cost €1bn to even get anyone to entertain the idea.

The 29-year-old has previously admitted his love for United and that one day he hopes to return to the club, but his representative says that will not be happening.

“Cristiano is very happy at Real. He has always been. He will break all records of the club before retiring there,” Mendes was quoted by Le Figaro.
