8. Diego Costa, Chelsea – 3.1 shots per game

The leading scorer in the division has surprisingly not had the most shots, with Costa managing an impressive nine goals in his seven appearances to date.

6=. Wayne Rooney, Manchester United – 3.2 shots per game

Was given the captaincy by new manager Louis van Gaal this term and has scored three goals so far, but has also received a red card for a silly foul on West Ham United’s Stewart Downing.

6=. Charlie Austin, QPR – 3.2 shots per game

It has been a tough reintroduction to the top tier for the Hoops since promotion from the Championship, but Austin has been playing well and has netted twice.

3=. Danny Welbeck, Arsenal – 3.3 shots per game

Joined the Gunners from the Red Devils on transfer deadline day for £16m and has since played well for the North London side, scoring once and providing one assist.

3=. Graziano Pelle, Southampton – 3.3 shots per game

Signed from Feyenoord over the summer and has impressed in English football, scoring four times already and propelling the Saints towards the top of the table.

3=. Niko Kranjcar, QPR – 3.3 shots per game

Another from Loftus Road now which suggests the West Londoners should probably be scoring more than they have been so far.

2. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City – 3.6 shots per game

Despite having struggled with injuries in recent times this Argentina international remains prolific and has five goals already from five starts this campaign.

1. Mario Balotelli, Liverpool – 4.6 shots per game

A big jump now to the No.1 player and yet Balotelli is the only person on the list not to have scored in the league yet, suggesting the Italian has been off target with his attempts.
