According to football statistics aggregator WhoScored, these five Liverpool players have outperformed everyone else so far this Premier League season.

While there’ll be no prizes for guessing no.1, a much criticised new signing has also made the list…

5) Steven Gerrard – 7.13 rating

Gerrard’s reached nowhere near the levels he did last season for the Reds, mainly because he’s been specifically man-marked by opponents. He makes the top five though as he’s bagged two goals – once from the spot, and one excellent free-kick v Everton.

4) Dejan Lovren – 7.15 rating

Most Liverpool fans agree that the centre-back’s been nothing short of dire since his £20m move from Southampton in the summer. He’s made continual defensive mistakes, but his impressive pass completion ratio (86.7%) and his aerial duels won per match (3.7) see him earn a respectable rating.

3) Daniel Sturridge – 7.39 rating

Sturridge picked up a cruel injury while on international duty with England, and the Reds have struggled without him. He scored the winning goal on the opening day v Southampton, and should be back next weekend for the QPR clash.

2) Jordan Henderson – 7.53 rating

Henderson’s provided an energetic presence in Liverpool’s midfield this season since being awarded the vice-captaincy. Three assists and one winner v West Brom have helped him carry on last season’s superb form.

1) Raheem Sterling – 7.57 rating

The best young player in the world is a subject of a tug-of-war between club and country right now, and Liverpool will be keen to get him back to Melwood and away from (in their eyes) the meddling Roy Hodgson. Sterling’s bagged three so far in the top flight, assisted two, and been easily Liverpool’s most exciting creative outlet.
