Rating Arsenal’s Top Five Players Of The Season So far: Injured French Star Bigger Loss Than Originally Thought?

Arsenal’s top five players this season, injuries having a massive impact on Gunners’ season…

Arsenal’s season is not going quite to plan at the moment, with the Gunners currently sat in eighth position nine points behind league leaders Chelsea. There have certainly been some positives however, with a number of players performing superbly so far this season.

Here are the top five Arsenal players by rating according to WhoScored.com:

5) Aaron Ramsey – 7.11

The Welsh Wizard was Arsenal’s most important player last season, and although he hasn’t quite managed to recapture the form he showed in the previous campaign he has still been chipping in with the goals and assists.

4) Santi Cazorla – 7.16

Somewhat underutilized this season so far, Cazorla may get more of a chance since the long term injury to Mesut Ozil. He has been unable to recapture the form he showed during his first season with Arsenal as of yet, but hopefully an extended run in the team will help him rekindle some of that fire.

3) Mesut Ozil – 7.31

The German playmaker has come under fire for his performances since joining Arsenal last season, but he is often quietly efficient in his own way.

Recently ruled out for a lengthy spell due to a knee injury, some time out of the spotlight may do the World Cup winner some good.

2) Danny Welbeck – 7.42

Deadline day signing Danny Welbeck joined the club with mixed receptions, but he seems to have won over a number of Arsenal fans already.

With a goal and an assist in the Premier League as well as his first senior hat-trick in the Gunners’ win over Galatasaray in the Champions League, the former Manchester United man is already drawing comparisons to the great one Thierry Henry.

1) Mathieu Debuchy – 7.54

It says a lot about Arsenal’s season that their top rated player is out with a long term injury.

The former Newcastle man was brought in to replace the recently departed Bacary Sagna, and was doing a superb job until his unfortunate injury. His absence has left a large gap in the Arsenal defence, which was already looking threadbare prior to the incident.

I’m sure Gooners will be looking forward to the return of their attack minded French full-back.
