The newspaper highlighted one top 16 or 17-year-old at each club in England’s top division.

We have taken a closer look at each of the players listed.

West Ham United – Sam Howes

The promising goalkeeper is rated very highly at Upton Park. He was named Young Hammer of the Year last season. Howes was then a part of England’s Under-17 side that were crowned champions of Europe in May.

Kyle Edwards – West Bromwich Albion

Local boy Edwards achieved eight A*-Cs in his GCSEs, but it is his footballing ability, rather than his academic capabilities, that have got people excited at the Baggies. He is an attacking midfielder with a keen eye for goal.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – Tottenham Hotspur

Despite being just 16 years old, Spurs defender Carter-Vickers was recently called up to play for the USA at Under-23 level.

Aaron Lewis – Swansea City

Attacking right-back Lewis is a real threat on the overlap. He is also excellent at defending in one-on-one situations.

Luke Molyneux – Sunderland

Winger Molyneux is a confident left-footer who loves to commit defenders and shoot from long range.

Harley Willard – Southampton

You’ve heard of top young players leaving Southampton for Arsenal, but exciting winger Willard actually went the other way, before signing a pro contract with the Saints last month.

Oliver Shenton – Stoke City

Sixteen-year-old midfielder Shenton made his debut for Stoke’s first team in August’s 3-0 win over Portsmouth. Potters star Charlie Adam is currently mentoring the teenage hopeful.

Tom Matthews – Queens Park Rangers

QPR youngster Matthews is not the tallest of centre-halves, but his has an excellent positional sense and he is very composed on the ball.

Stefan Broccoli – Newcastle United

Former Arsenal teen Broccoli is very versatile. He is equally comfortable at right-back and in central midfield.

Marcus Rashford – Manchester United

Attacking midfielder Rashford, who can also play up front, was targeted by fierce rivals Man City this summer, but United managed to keep hold of their prized asset.

Tosin Adarabioyo – Manchester City

Seventeen-year-old centre-back Adarabioyo is a regular starter for City’s Under-18s, for whom he made his debut when he just 14. He has represented England at U-18 level too.

Adam Phillips – Liverpool

Midfielder Phillips, who joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers in 2009, is only 16, but don’t be surprised if he makes his senior first-team debut very soon. He made a 45-minute appearance against Brondby in pre-season and he has been looking very sharp in the Premier League’s Under-21 competition, scoring twice against Man City last month.

Hamza Choudhury – Leicester City

Midfielder Choudhury is currently ripping it up for Leicester’s youth teams, but he may not be in the East Midlands for much longer. That’s because a host of top clubs, including Barcelona and Chelsea, are said to be interested in his signature.

Matt Hinchliffe – Hull City

Hinchliffe is the rock at the heart of the Hull Under-18s defence. His twin brother, Ben, plays up front for the young Tigers.

Kieran Dowell – Everton

Midfielder Dowell is certainly not the only hot prospect at Goodison Park, but he could well be the brightest star of the bunch. The 17-year-old is already in the thoughts of manager Roberto Martinez, who is expected to promote him to the senior ranks next year.

Corie Andrews – Crystal Palace

Seventeen-year-old striker Andrews signed a professional deal with the Eagles recently. He ended last season in great form, scoring six goals in five games for Palace’s Under-18s.

Dominic Solanke – Chelsea

Solanke will have to be pretty special to graduate from Chelsea’s academy and make it into the first team at Stamford Bridge. The 17-year-old striker has a chance, though. He will be a full international within five years, according to manager Jose Mourinho. Solanke had a very good season last term, helping Chelsea win the Youth Cup, before achieving European Championship glory with England’s Under-17s.

Khius Metz – Burnley

Rapid striker Mets recently broke former sprinter Darren Campbell’s 20-year-old 200m school record in Manchester. He could have pursued a career in athletics, but he opted for football instead.

Easah Suliman – Aston Villa

Birmingham-born defender Suliman has captained England at Under-17 level. He is also a talented cricketer, but football is his sport of choice. He can play anywhere across the back four.

Chris Willock – Arsenal

At the age of 16, striker Willock starred in Arsenal’s preseason win at Boreham Wood this summer. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is impressed by Willock, but he is keen for the lad to bulk up before he gives him a Premier League chance.
