Inspirational hard-man at the back, an integral part of the promotion side and extremely experienced in the Championship.

17) Clint Hill (Queens Park Rangers)

Veteran defender who has been with club since 2010, and been part of two promotion campaign as well as a relegation.

16) Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United)

The Dutch defender was in good form at last summer’s World Cup – Villa always look a stronger team with him there.

8) Ashley Williams (Swansea City)

The Swans inspirational skipper has been key to their success over the last several years, including promotion and League Cup win.

7) Younes Kaboul (Tottenham Hotspur)

A surprise choice for the Spurs captaincy considering his lack of game time in recent years. But a popular option nonetheless.

6) Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Has missed most of the current season through injury, and could face a short-lived spell as club captain.

5) Phil Jagielka (Everton)

An Everton legend after his stoppage time strike against Liverpool, and an impressive presence at the heart of defence.

4) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

He may be past his best, but the Liverpool icon still has the ability to turn it on when the situation demands.

3) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

The newly crowned captain of both club and country, he is hoping to lead United back into happier times.

2) John Terry (Chelsea)

Captain, leader, legend – the Chelsea rock is still putting in fine performances in the heart of defence.
