Gareth Southgate’s men are looking strong ahead of the tournament and with no senior international competitions next summer, there are debates as to whether the eligible senior players should be included in his squad.

Here are the stars that Southgate could call upon from Roy Hodgson’s setup.

Ross Barkley

The Everton attacking midfielder is currently injured, but Roberto Martinez expects him back in the very near future and having impressed for the Toffees and at the 2014 World Cup this 20-year-old could be an extremely useful asset.

Calum Chambers

Was included in the recent squad to play Croatia before injury saw Hodgson upgrade the 19-year-old for the Euro 2016 qualifiers with San Marino and Estonia and has also been impressing for Arsenal since a £16m summer transfer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Another Gunner now and although still just 20-years-old is an established figure in the senior team with 18 caps and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s versatility in midfield would make him a great player to call upon for Southgate.

Luke Shaw

Like Chambers this 19-year-old full-back left Southampton this summer for pastures new, joining Manchester United for £27m and whilst there is much expected in the future from Shaw a U21 tournament could be the ideal platform to boost his confidence.

Raheem Sterling

Arguably the most exciting and talented name on this list as over the past 18 months this 19-year-old has become a key figure for Liverpool and the Three Lions and therefore could be the catalyst for success in the Czech Republic.

John Stones

Another from Goodison Park now and someone who had been edging his way into Hodgson’s side before injury struck him down and although initially a right-back is now looking a much better prospect in central defence.

Jack Wilshere

At 22-years-old Wilshere is the oldest on this list, but having been 21 when qualification started would be eligible and with 24 senior caps could also bring a wealth of experience to a side that is naturally lacking it.
