Eleven Premier League players still on their club’s books…

Reports in the Sun recently suggested that Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu will be happy to stay in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, if Jose Mourinho is unable to guarantee him a future at Stamford Bridge.

What is likely to come as the bigger surprise to the Chelsea fans, rather than this threat from their 23-year-old outcast, is that the player is still on their books at all.

Of course, he’s far from the only player with that reputation. Here are a whole team of Premier League players that you may have even forgotten:

GK) Richard Wright (Manchester City)

The veteran goalkeeper, who was on Arsenal’s books back in 2001, was picked up by Man City in 2012, and has remained with them ever since. The 36-year-old is yet to feature in any competitive fixture.

RB) Guillermo Varela (Manchester United)

Despite having only played one senior game in his career, David Moyes made the full-back his first signing at United last summer. He is yet to play for the club, and is now on loan with Real Madrid’s reserve team.

LB) Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham Hotspur)

The Cameroonian defender has been with Tottenham since 2006, but has not had a look in at the first-team for the last couple of years, and spent last season on loan with QPR.

CB) Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Newcastle United)

Newcastle fans would no doubt wish to forget the Frenchman’s disastrous spell at the club – he’s on loan at Roma this season, but still belongs to the Magpies.

CM) Oriol Romeu (Chelsea)

The former Barcelona starlet has not played for Chelsea since the 2012-13 season, and underwent an uninspiring loan spell with Valencia last season.

CM) Abou Diaby (Arsenal)

The long-time Arsenal midfielder has played 16 Premier League games in the last three and a half seasons. It’s hard not to feel sorry for the injury prone midfielder.

RM) Scott Sinclair (Manchester City)

The 25-year-old has made just 11 Premier League appearances since arriving at City from Swansea in 2012. A loan spell at West Brom last year did very little for him.

LM) Gael Kakuta (Chelsea)

The Frenchman has undergone six loan spells since joining Chelsea in 2009. He has made just six Premier League appearances.

ST) Samed Yesil (Liverpool)

The German was supposed to be the next big thing after scoring 20 goals in 21 games for his country’s Under 17’s team. Despite signing in 2012, he is yet to play in the Premier League.

ST) Danny Graham (Sunderland)

The 29-year-old centre forward joined Sunderland in 2013, and is yet to score a league goal. Loan spells at Hull City and Middlesbrough went someway to helping him rediscover his form, but he’s yet to get a look in this year.

ST) Angelo Henriquez (Manchester United)

Signed my Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012 – the Chilean has shown flashes of his ability during a series of loan spells, and will still be hopeful of a career at Old Trafford.
