The Gunners have been linked several times with the experienced Spaniard in recent months, with speculation growing that the player’s poor form is set to cost him his place in the Madrid starting lineup.

Rumours had started during the summer as well when Real moved to sign impressive Costa Rican shot-stopper Keylor Navas from Levante, though he has so far served as a backup to Casillas in the Madrid goal.

It may be that Ancelotti is now set to spurn any offers for the 33-year-old despite some calls for him to be axed, with the Italian tactician insisting that the player is a club legend who will retire with his boyhood team.

“The matter is closed,” he said. “His future is here, it is part of the history of this club and in a few years, when he retires as a football player, Iker will come to this forum along with other great champions at the club to talk about all the European Cups he has won with this shirt.”

Casillas will need to be at his best for the upcoming El Clasico match against Barcelona, with another bad display surely bound to raise even more questions.

Arsenal have also been linked with the keeper’s Real team-mate Sami Khedira, who is out of contract with the Spanish giants at the end of this season.
