The ten most expensive transfers that could happen in January…

According to reports in today’s press, Manchester United are interested in making a £60m double swoop for Everton duo Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman, while Arsenal could renew their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.

Of course they aren’t the only big-money deals that could be happening. Here are our top ten:

10) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton to Tottenham)

Tottenham chased the Southampton man throughout the summer, without success, and could return with a renewed bid of around £20m in the January window.

9) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli to Liverpool)

Several reports have linked Liverpool with a move for the Argentine striker, who is currently without Champions League football after Napoli missed out on qualification. He would cost the Reds around £30m.

8) Kevin Strootman (Roma to Manchester United)

Roma have so far rebuffed rumours of the Dutchman’s impending move to Old Trafford, but this deal looks something of inevitability, even if it means the Italian side holding out for over £30m.

7) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal)

Arsenal are desperate for a new centre back, but missed out on the German star over the summer. A £32m offer should bring the player to London in January.

6) Arturo Vidal (Juventus to Manchester United)

Another long term United target who has been in one of the longest on again, off again transfer sagas of all time. A bid in the region of £35m would surely be too good to turn down.

5) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City)

Numerous Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the German winger, who missed the summer’s World Cup through injury. A clause in his current contract means he’s available for just £20m next summer, but if the likes of Manchester City want him sooner, they will need to pay almost double that.

4) Ross Barkley & Seamus Coleman (Everton to Manchester United)

Everton are believed to have quoted a jaw-dropping £40m fee for any team interested in taking Ross Barkley away from Goodison Park. The 20-year-old is certainly talented, and is now back in training after an injury ruled him out of the start of the season. If any team would stump up the cash, it would be Louis van Gaal’s big spending side. Full-back Seamus Coleman would also cost around £20m.

3) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid to Liverpool)

If Liverpool are still in the Champions League come January, they will likely splash the cash as they did this summer. The signing of the Frenchman would be a real signal intent, and would certainly take some of the pressure off the miss-firing Mario Balotelli. The European champions would demand in excess of £40m.

2) Edinson Cavani (PSG to Arsenal)

Like Reus, a number of Premier League clubs have tracked Edinson Cavani, who is reportedly tired of being Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s understudy in Paris. Arsenal have plenty of cash and could do with another top class striker to challenge the rapidly improving Danny Welbeck. The deal could cost upwards of £45m.

1) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid to Manchester United)

Surely this couldn’t happen… could it? The world player of the year has certainly spoken of his desire to return to Old Trafford before the end of his career, and United have stated their intent to continue spending plenty of cash on their new look team. But is £80m too much for a player who will be 30 in February?
