Manchester United News Roundup: Shock Hummels Alternative Targeted, Vidal Will Cost £48m And Club Legend Celebrates Wonder Goal

Friday’s biggest stories for the Red Devils.

Aston Villa tell Manchester United Ron Vlaar will cost upwards of £12m

Villa captain Vlaar will set back any interested party at least £12m if they want to sign him, with Arsenal and the Red Devils thought to be leading the chase, according to the Daily Express.

The 29-year-old is out of contract next summer, but is committed to manager Paul Lambert’s cause and is very likely to renew that deal in the near future.

Therefore Louis van Gaal will have to show the centre-back just how much he wants to sign him by tabling a hefty offer.

Juventus up asking price for Arturo Vidal to £48m

Following Real Madrid’s interest in the United target the reigning Serie A champions have sensed an opportunity to make more money and have increased their asking price for Vidal.

According to the Daily Express, La Bianconeri are demanding £48m for the Chile international – who is considered by many to be the best box-to-box midfielder in world football.

Juve are keen on signing Madrid star Sami Khedira as a replacement though and therefore may look to strike up some sort of swap deal with Los Blancos.

Red Devils turn their attentions to shock target Ryan Shawcross of Stoke City

Van Gaal is desperate to sign defensive support in January having not yet adequately replaced Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Vlaar and Borussia Dortmund skipper Mats Hummels have both been shortlisted, but both are also proving to be extremely difficulty to sign.

That is why, according to the Daily Star, the 13-time Premier League champions have turned their attention to a former youth player in Shawcross, who has a buy-back clause written into his contract at Stoke.

Former Chelsea and United chief executive Peter Kenyon employed by Atletico Madrid

The man who enjoyed so much success at Old Trafford before controversially joining the Blues when Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003 has now found a place in La Liga.

As Spanish publication AS reports reigning champions Atleti have employed Kenyon as an advisor to the club as they look to continue their development as a brand.

Atletico have enjoyed plenty of success on the pitch in recent years – with the Spanish title, Copa del Rey and Europa League – and now want to become more of a force off it.

Club legend Gary Neville jokingly analyses Ryan Giggs’ wonder goal in the FA Cup

Sky Sports pundit and former defender Neville has used his talents as a broadcaster to analyse what is considered one of the greatest FA Cup goals of all time.

Against the Gunners in 1999 Giggs picked the ball up in his own half before taking on half of the opposition and slamming the ball past goalkeeper David Seaman.
