It’s been another exciting weekend of Premier League action, with the undoubted biggest talking point being Southampton’s astonishing 8-0 victory over sorry Sunderland at St. Mary’s. With the notable exception of Manchester United’s Monday night trip to The Hawthorns, the dust has now settled, with this being our team of the weekend:

GK) Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium looked comfortable – but Manuel Pellegrini and his side had Joe Hart to thank for that, the England ‘keeper saving a penalty and making other crucial stops.

RB) Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton)

It’s hard to play badly in a game where your team win 8-0, but Southampton right back Nathaniel Clyne really stood out from the crowd, given the freedom to torment the Sunderland left side with his pace going forwards.

CB) Steven Taylor (Newcastle United)

Steven Taylor returned to the Newcastle defence for their narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City at St. James’ Park and the Magpies looked noticeably more solid, with Taylor keeping the dangerous Leonardo Ulloa very quiet.

CB) Phil Jagielka (Everton)

England international Jagielka has been shaky during the opening weeks of this season but was back on form as Everton thrashed Aston Villa, keeping the visitors very quiet and heading home a goal to help his team along.

LB) Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United)

Attacking left back Aaron Cresswell has been a revelation since signing for West Ham from Championship side Ipswich Town this summer and he tormented Burnley, providing a fine assist for Diafra Sakho.

RM) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez has taken his time to adapt to the Premier League but was exception in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Hull City, scoring a wonderful individual goal and providing a fine assist for Danny Welbeck’s equalising goal.

CM) Mohamed Diame (Hull City)

Powerful midfielder Mohamed Diame has started his Hull City career in stunning form and was too powerful and too energetic for his Arsenal opponents all afternoon, scoring the equalising goal with a deft chip over Wojciech Szczesny.

CM) Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

Spanish international Fabregas has had a massive impact on Chelsea’s fortunes since signing from Barcelona this summer and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck at Selhurst Park, getting stuck in and scoring what proved to be the winner.

LM) Dusan Tadic (Southampton)

Serbian winger Dusan Tadic has been a stunning signing for Southampton and the former FC Twente man joined a select group of players to have made four assists in a single Premier League game, whilst also grabbing a goal in the 8-0 demolition of Sunderland.

SC) Graziano Pelle (Southampton)

Former Feyenoord striker and new Italian international Graziano Pelle celebrated his first international goal against Malta recently and bagged another two here as he capitalised on the collapse of sorry Sunderland. Has been some signing.

SC) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Aguero is arguably the finest player in the Premier League when he is fully fit and firing – and the Argentine international looked to be on fire as Tottenham got hammered 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Aguero scoring all of them.
