Seven Footballers And Their Weird Hobbies: Ex-Man United Star Is A Whizz At Bingo

The seven strange hobbies of professional footballers.

Footballers are a strange breed. With too much time and money on their hands, coupled with the ridiculous demands and pressure of their job their minds often wander into slightly more outrageous territories. The players below don’t have strange hobbies by anyone else’s standards, but the thought of some of them partaking in their selected activities does make for very amusing thought patterns.

Andrei Arshavin – Fashion design

The former Arsenal man already knows what he is going to do when he finally hangs up his boots and that is retreat to the drawing room to work on his stylish new clothes designs. Now 33, it may surprise many to know that he holds a degree in fashion drawing and runs a successful women’s clothing line with his wife. Admittedly, his reasons for studying fashion in the first place are as basic as you can imagine; there were a lot of girls on that course and he wanted in.

Asamoah Gyan – Rapper

The former Sunderland star, like most footballers, has one eye on the music industry, and again like most footballers their taste is usually terrible. Gyan has yet to release a song of his own, but instead he has featured in a number of videos by other prominent African rappers. However, this summer he was forced to issue a denial after accusations arose that he Murdered rap star Castro in a ritual sacrifice.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Bingo

When he’s not found on the training group perfecting his outrageous skills, or in front of the mirror perfecting his outrageously sculpted hair, the 29-year-old can most likely be found in the bingo hall where he gives the granny’s of Madrid a good run for their money. Introduced to it as a language learning exercise when he first arrived at Manchester United, Ronaldo fell in love with the game and apparently can’t get enough of it.

Ryan Giggs – Yoga

How else could a 40-year-old man pull the strings in the centre of midfield at the top level for so long? Yoga, of course. The then veteran midfielder credited the practice with keeping him so in shape for so long and loved it so much that he even has his own yoga dvd entitled ‘Giggs Fitness’.

Andrea Pirlo – Winemaker

It’s no surprise to learn that the classiest footballer on the planet also has the classiest pastime on the planet, too. Having been introduced to the rigours of terroir and Botrytis at an early age when he used to help his grandmother with the harvest on her vineyard, the 35-year-old has grown up with a fine appreciation and interest with the production and manufacture of the plonk, and even has designs on opening his own restaurant when he hangs up his boots.

Gerard Pique – Poker Star

Where does the 27-year-old go when he needs to get away from the demands of playing for Barcelona and the pressures of life at home a pop star wife and a child? The poker table, of course. But far from being a degenerate gambling addict, he’s actually pretty good. This summer he took part in the Las Vegas World Series of Poker, where he was knocked out at the end of the second day, but not before he’d collected $87,288, thus holding the 143rd spot in the Spanish all-time money list.

Theo Walcott – Children’s Author

The Gunners star is a huge fan of children’s literature, so much so that he decided to pen a series of books surrounding the football career of a fictional character by the name of “T.J”. Titles include: ‘T.J and the Hat-Trick’, ‘T.J and the Penalty’, ‘T.J and the Winning Goal’, and ‘T.J and the Cup Run’. What will T.J get up to next?
