Manchester United 7 -1 Roma, 2007

Roma’s crushing by Bayern Munich last night brought back some bad memories of when Manchester United gave them a similar spanking. Michael Carrick scored a fabulous early strike to set the tone, but the rest of the team weren’t to be outdone. Cristiano Ronaldo ran the show for Manchester United but it was Roma’s consolation that was the goal of the night, a rocketed Daniele De Rossi volley.

Zilina 0 – 7 Marseille, 2010

MSK Zilina didn’t earn a single point from their group in 2010/2010, and that’s not particularly surprising given results like these. Andre-Pierre Gignac scored a hat-trick as the Frenchmen, who were later knocked out by Manchester United, dominated the Slovenians.

Bayern Munich 7 – 0 Basel, 2011

Swiss side Basel have a great record against Premier League teams in recent years and came into this game having won four points in their two group gamse against Manchester United. Brave Basel beat Bayern 1-0 in the first leg, which apparently woke the German giants, who promptly smashed seven past them in the second leg.

Arsenal 7 – 0 Slavia Prague, 2007

Arsenal teenagers Cesc Fabregas and Theo Wallcott proved their class by scoring twice each. The Gunners choked away in Prague however, drawing 0-0 before compounding their error by losing in Bucharest.

Juventus 7 – 0 Olympiakos, 2003

Juventus play Olympiakos tonight in the Champions league, and will be hoping for a results similar to the one they achieved in 2007, when they had five different goalscorers in their comprehensive hammering of the Greeks.

Valencia 7 – 0 Genk, 2011

Spurs flop Roberto Soldado scored a hat-trick as Valencia hammered Belgians Genk. Unfortunately for both sides, eventual winners Chelsea were in their group, and neither side ended up qualifying.

Liverpool 8 – 0 Besiktas, 2007

The only game to break the 8 goal mark saw Liverpool run riot at home against the Turks. Peter Crouch, Steven Gerrard and Ryan Babel all got on the scoresheet, but Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun stole the show with a hat-trick. Liverpool reached the semi-finals, where they were beaten by Chelsea. Besiktas, unsurprisingly, finished last in the group.
