Ranking Manchester United’s Summer Signings With Angel Di Maria Impressing But £27m Defender Disappointing

Here CaughtOffside ranks how successful those new signings have been so far in 2014/15.

6. Luke Shaw

Became the most expensive English teenager in history upon completing a £27m switch from Southampton, but after initially being deemed too fat by manager Louis van Gaal the 19-year-old has still failed to truly impress since breaking into the starting XI.

5. Marcos Rojo

Was seen by many as something of a panic buy as the Argentina international completed a £16m switch from Sporting Lisbon and although can play in both central defence and at left-back, is not an adequate replacement for Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic.

4. Radamel Falcao

It was something of shock when the Red Devils completed a deadline day loan move this striker, paying a £6m fee in the process and since then Falcao has opened his scoring account but is yet to recreate the form he showed at both Atletico Madrid and FC Porto.

3. Daley Blind

With an abundance of attacking flair at van Gaal’s disposal acquiring this Netherlands international could prove to be especially shrewd as Blind plays as an unselfish holding midfielder and can also fill in at the back if required.

2. Ander Herrera

Having been tracked a year earlier by David Moyes this Spaniard finally completed his Old Trafford switch in a £29m move from boyhood club Athletic Bilbao and although has struggled with injuries, when on the pitch the 24-year-old has looked sharp.

1. Angel di Maria

Top of the pile though and it is the most expensive player in British transfer history with di Maria completing a £59.7m move from Real Madrid and has since greatly impressed with three goals and three assists and looks to be worth the money.
