The Worst Centre-Backs In The Premier League This Season, Including Manchester United Youngster And £12m Transfer Target

There have been some pretty poor defences this season

With goalscoring records being beaten seemingly every few weeks at the moment, forward players have been getting some good press.

However, maybe they are not the only reason why the goals are flying in. Some centre-backs are looking pretty terrible at the moment. Here statistically are  the worst 10 to have played more than one game this season.

10) Damien Delaney, Crystal Palace

Although Palace are seen as a tough team to score against, the Irish defender hasn’t been having the best time of it so far this season. He’s only making 1.5 tackles every 90 minutes at the moment.

9) Philippe Senderos, Aston Villa

The ex-Arsenal centre-back was brought in to shore things up at the back for Villa. However after a strong start Villa have now lost their last four games, and the Swiss seems to be one of the problems behind the poor run of form.

8) Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa

The big Dutchman may be a target for Manchester United according to the Mirror, but if the stats are anything to go by then Louis van Gaal may be barking up the wrong tree. He is currently only averaging one tackle every 90 minutes.

7) Mike Williamson, Newcastle United

Maybe less surprisingly on this list with the troubles that Newcastle have been going through, Williamson has had a poor season so far. However he hasn’t been helped by the rest of his team having stinkers as well.

6) Fabricio Coloccini, Newcastle United

The Argentine has been a rock for the Toon for years, but he seems to have finally hit his limit. Coloccini’s poor performances are a big reason why Alan Pardew is under so much pressure this season.

5) John O’Shea, Sunderland

The 33-year-old may have been performing heroics internationally, but for Sunderland he has been under par. The Black Cats lie near the relegation zone, and the form of their captain hasn’t helped.

4) Tyler Blackett, Manchester United

Blackett has had a tough start to life at United, playing under a new manager and in a new system, he seems to have struggled to adapt to the higher level. The young Englishman is currently averaging just one tackle a game.

3) Sylvain Distin, Everton

At 36, Distin has been a stalwart of the Premier League for the best part of thirteen years. However he seems to have finally felt the effects of age, and after losing his place in the Toffees team could well be on a slide from the top.

2) Jonas Olsson, West Brom

After a shaky start to the season, West Brom seem to have started to hit form. Olsson does not seem to have shared in this upturn in fortunes however and the Swede will need to pick it up if he wants to stay in the side.

1) Richard Dunne, QPR

QPR have conceded eighteen goals in just eight games so far this season and a few have been down to this man.

The statistically worst centre-back with more than 90 minutes under his belt in the Premier league is the own goal machine Dunne.

The Irishman will have to seriously sort it out if the Hoops are going to have a chance at survival this season.
