(Videos) The Six Best Rabonas Of All Time: Manchester United New Boys Pull Off The Trick

Who can match up to silky Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela?

A Thursday night Europa League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Greek Super League outfit Asteras Tripolis perhaps didn’t set too many pulses racing outside of White Hart Lane – but that certainly changed when Erik Lamela crashed in an incredible Rabona goal from outside the box to put his side 2-0 ahead in the first half.

Whilst Lamela’s audacious strike was one of the finest examples of the Rabona that football has seen, it is far from the only one, as this list of six other wonderful Rabonas from the Mirror shows.

Take a look and marvel at the technique and skill involved in these:

Erik Lamela (River Plate)

Last night’s game against Asteras in North London wasn’t the first Rabona that Lamela has ever pulled off – he did this when playing for River Plate’s youth team in his native Argentina.

Angel di Maria (Benfica)

Now of Manchester United and Britain’s most expensive football ever, Angel di Maria is well known for his propensity for trying the Rabona – as shown here by this fine goal in a European tie against AEK Athens.

Marcos Rojo (Argentina)

Even Erik Lamela probably wouldn’t recommend doing the Rabona in your own penalty area – but that is just what another Manchester United new boy, Marcos Rojo, pulled off against Bosnia and Herzegovina at this summer’s World Cup as he managed a novel way of clearing the ball.

Wojciech Szczesny (Poland)

The goalkeeper may not be the player on the pitch most likely to pull off such an audacious piece of skill – but that’s just what Arsenal stopper Wojciech Szczesny manager in front of the cameras during Poland training.

Nicklas Barkroth (Leiria)

The Rabona isn’t only used to score goals, it can create them too – as shown by this stunning assist from Swedish forward Nicklas Barkroth in a Portuguese game between Braga and Leiria.

Pablo Aimar (Valencia)

Former Argentina and Valencia playmaker Pablo Aimar never quite got the credit that he deserve – so we’re going to suggest that this effort that hits the inside of the post is an incredibly audacious shot rather than a slightly wayward cross!

David Dunn (Birmingham City)

The Rabona doesn’t always go right and this list simply wouldn’t be complete without this horrible fail from David Dunn for Birmingham City against bitter rivals Aston Villa.
