Here is Balague’s combined El Clasico XI:

GK) Keylor Navas

An unusual choice considering he is not even the first choice for Real Madrid at the moment.

RB) Dani Carvajal

The right back position is arguably one of the weakest positions for both sides, but Carvajal is the first choice of many.

CB) Sergio Ramos

One of the best centre-backs around at the moment, understandably the first choice at the back.

CB) Pepe

Another controversial choice by the Spanish journalist, with most fans and pundits favourite Raphael Varane or Jeremy Mathieu.

LB) Jordi Alba

The pacy left-back is both solid defensively and devastating going forward. First choice over Marcelo.

CDM) Sergio Busquets

A reliable figure for Barcelona, and since the departure of Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich he is the only choice for the midfield anchor role really.

CM) Ivan Rakitic

Barcelona new boy Ivan Rakitic has been solid for his new club so far, but it’s something of a shock to see him make the team ahead of Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.

CM) Toni Kroos

An unbelievable talent, Kroos is a fantastic midfielder who has a little bit of everything. It was a shock when Bayern let him go as he would walk into practically any team in the world.

CAM) Lionel Messi

An El Clasico XI without Messi would be totally insane, there is no way you can leave out the diminutive Argentine.

ST) Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese star is in unbelievable form at the moment, scoring goals for fun this season and leading his side to a number of dominant wins.

ST) Luis Suarez

Yet to play for the club due to his lengthy ban, Suarez will be eligible to make his debut for Barcelona in this season’s first El Clasico.
