Manchester United v Chelsea Combined XI: Embarrassingly Few Red Devils Make The Cut

What a gulf in class! Only one Red Devil makes it into combined Chelsea & Manchester United XI…

Manchester United have been in erratic form recently, while Chelsea have been the dominant force in the Premier League. It’s no surprise therefore that a combined XI is entirely dominated by the London side with just one Red Devil making it into the team.

Here is the combined Manchester United & Chelsea XI according to the Daily Mail:

GK) Thibaut Courtois

David de Gea has been super this season, but the young Belgian Chelsea star is already considered one of the best shot-stoppers in the league.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic

The giant Serbian is unquestionably the best right-back in the league at the moment. Not only offering the perfect balance of attack and defence, but his size and power is something rarely seen in full-backs.

CB) John Terry

The ever reliable Chelsea captain, with Manchester United’s defence so poor at the moment there are few other options.

CB) Gary Cahill

The other half of the Chelsea duo, the England first choice centre-back beats out his compatriots Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta

Suspended at the moment, but still first choice. Despite the Spaniard being predominantly a right-back, he has been one of the best left-backs in the league both this season and the one just gone.

CDM) Nemanja Matic

The dominant midfielder seems to be exactly what Chelsea were missing in the centre of the park, and he is arguably the kind of player United need right now as well.

CM) Cesc Fabregas

A reported Manchester United target on a number of occasions, Fabregas ended up returning to London with Chelsea and he has been in superb form since his return to the Premier league.

CAM) Oscar

At one point considered a liability defensively, the Brazilian has taken Jose Mourinho’s philosophy on board and is becoming an important part of this fantastic new Chelsea squad.

RAM) Angel di Maria

Manchester United’s record signing Angel di Maria has been the shining light for the club so far this season. On current form the Argentine would stroll into most teams in the world.

LAM) Eden Hazard

The Belgian is already considered one of the best players in the world, and at such a young age is only improving.

ST) Diego Costa

Although suffering with injuries, his form this season has been practically unparalleled. His unbelievable goalscoring record getting him a place ahead of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.
