Expected Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Newcastle United: Harry Kane Set For First Premier League Start Of The Season

Predicted Spurs starting XI for Newcastle clash.

Tottenham Hotspur started their run of three home games in six days with a 5-1 win over Asteras Tripolis on Thursday night.

As usual for a Europa League game, head coach Mauricio Pochettino made a host of changes.

One of those changes saw England Under-21 international Harry Kane come into the side.

He stole the show at White Hart Lane, scoring his first ever senior hat-trick, before ending the night as an emergency goalkeeper.

Kane’s heroics against Asteras will surely see him make his first Premier League start of the season when Newcastle United come to London later today.

Here’s the rest of the team that we reckon Pochettino will select to face the Magpies…

GK: Hugo Lloris

The French number one made two outstanding saves on Thursday night, before he was sent off late on for bringing down Tasos Tsokanis. Fortunately for Spurs, his subsequent suspension will only apply in Europe.

RB: Eric Dier

Dier’s extended run in the team will continue, because Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton are still not ready for action.

LB: Danny Rose

Ben Davies looked in very good shape on Thursday, but Rose has been Tottenham’s Premier League left-back all season.

CB: Younes Kaboul

Captain Kaboul had a bit of a stinker in the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City last weekend, but he will lead the side out again, after being rested in midweek.

CB: Jan Vertonghen

Federico Fazio partnered Kaboul at City, but the Argentine got sent off, meaning that he is suspended today. Vlad Chiriches has been in shocking form this term, so Vertoghen will get the nod to replace the former Sevila skipper.

CM: Ryan Mason

Mason played no part on Thursday night, presumably meaning he was being rested. The 23-year-old has started Tottenham’s last three league games and that run is likely to continue.

CM: Etienne Capoue

Mousa Dembele and Capoue both started against Asteras and both put in good shifts. Either player could fill this position, but Pochettino has favoured Capoue in the league all season, so the Frenchman will probably get the nod.

RAM: Erik Lamela

Lamela has still yet to score a Premier League goal, but he bagged a truly brilliant brace in Europe on Thursday. With his confidence seemingly at its highest point since he joined Spurs in August 2013, only a fool would drop Lamela right now.

CAM: Harry Kane

Kane has yet to start at Premier League game this term, but his record under Pochettino has been very good – five goals and one assist in all competitions. After scoring a hat-trick on Thursday, Kane simply must line-up against Newcastle. If he does, he will most likely be deployed just behind the main striker, but he will be tasked with getting into the box as often as realistically possible.

LAM: Christian Eriksen

Eriksen has scored in each of Tottenham’s last two Premier League games – the 1-0 win over Southampton and the 4-1 loss at City.

ST: Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor has been Tottenham’s main man up top this season, but he has struggled with the responsibility of playing as a lone frontman. The inclusion of Kane should help Adebayor – and Spurs – a great deal.
