Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings From 2-1 Loss To Newcastle United: Unfocused Eric Dier Costs Poor Spurs Dearly

Tottenham Hotspur have now lost three of their last four home games in the Premier League, after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Emmanuel Adebayor gave Spurs the lead on 18 minutes, before Newcastle struck twice after half time to get the better of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who were deservedly booed off the pitch.

Here’s how Pochettino’s men rated at White Hart Lane.

GK: Hugo Lloris 6-10

No heroics from Lloris today, but the Frenchman did very little wrong and was not at fault for either Newcastle goals.

RB: Eric Dier – 5/10

Dier got caught out for Newcastle’s equaliser, which came within seven seconds of kick-off in the second half. The England Under-21 star was not at all prepared and his lack of attention cost his side dearly.

LB: Danny Rose – 7/10

Most of Tottenham’s attacks came down the left flank and busy Rose played a key role in many of them.

CB: Younes Kaboul – 7/10

Kaboul was much improved following last weekend’s horror show at Manchester City. He made five interceptions and eight clearances, as well as four tackles.

CB: Jan Vertonghen – 6/10

Vertonghen did ok. He was confident on the ball and fairly solid defensively.

CM: Ryan Mason – 8/10

Mason was the best player on the pitch in the first half. He was extremely positive in everything he did and his cross for Adebayor’s goal was delightful.

CM: Etienne Capoue 6/10

Capoue was not his usual dominant self in the middle of the field. He picked up a yellow card and was replaced by Harry Kane on 66 minutes.

RAM: Nacer Chadli – 6/10

Lacked a spark. Too slow in his passing and movement.

LAM: Erik Lamela 5/10

Lamela wowed the world with his self-indulgent rabona goal in the Europa League on Thursday, but he was anonymous during his 77-minute appearance today. No goals in 18 Premier League games now.

CAM: Christian Eriksen 7-10

Had more shots – five – than any player on either side. Unfortunately, not were on target.

ST: Emmanuel Adebayor 7-10

Showed good composure to head Spurs in front. Needed more support, though.

Subs:

Harry Kane 7-10: Gave Tottenham a lift when he came on, but was unable to drag them back into the game.

Aaron Lennon 5/10: Contributed a poor shot and a dreadful cross.

Roberto Soldado 6/10: Was only given eight minutes.
