Plays in midfield for his nation and as a centre-back for Barca and wherever Mascherano is fielded the Argentine always impresses.

A second German now which is little surprise considering how well the country has performed in recent times.
DM – Philipp Lahm, Bayern Munich and Germany
Another who swaps positions, with Lahm playing as a full-back for the Germans and as a defensive midfielder for Bayern.
CM – Angel di Maria, Manchester United and Argentina
A second Argentinian now as they did reach the World Cup final and di Maria is now impressing at new club United as well.

The Germans just keep on coming and Kroos was hugely influential for Bayern and is doing a similar job for Madrid now.
RM – Gareth Bale, Real Madrid and Wales
After becoming the most expensive player of all time in 2013 the Welshman then enjoyed a strong first season in the Spanish capital.
CAM – Thomas Muller, Bayern Munich and Germany
With 10 World Cup goals from just two tournaments this 25-year-old continues to be something of an unsung hero.
LM – Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid and Portugal
It wouldn’t quite be right without the current Ballon d’Or holder featuring and Ronaldo helped Los Blancos to Champions League and Copa del Rey success last term.
ST – Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona and Argentina
Leading the line is a South American who continues to impress at every level and was named Player of the Tournament at the World Cup.
