The Five Premier League Sides That Concede Most Goals In The Final 15 Minutes: Chelsea Carry Worrying Record

The five biggest conceders in the Premier League this season.

Nobody likes conceding late goals, especially when you’re not winning. But some do it more than others and it belies a worrying trend that could dent a team’s ambitions in the Premier League. 5. Hull City – 30.8% of goals conceded in last 15 minutes

Despite some heavy reinforcement over the summer the Tigers have struggled to keep their composure for the full 90 minutes so far this term. It wasn’t long ago that Curtis Davies was being touted for an England call-up, but that seems to be a tall ask now.

4. Crystal Palace – 31.3% of goals conceded in last 15 minutes

Under Tony Pulis, Palace were a much tighter ship and formed a cohesive defensive unit, but unsettled by the changing of the guard just two days before the start of the campaign they have looked increasingly uncertain as the games have gone by. Manager Neil Warnock will be looking to dip into the transfer market in January for sure.

3. Liverpool – 33.3% of goals conceded in last 15 minutes

The Reds have struggled this term after pushing Manchester City all the way to the end last season, and a major part of their problem has been conceding late goals. When added to the fact that they’re struggling to score as well, this season is shaping up to be another damp squib after a lot of promise going in.

2. Aston Villa – 33.3% of goals conceded in last 15 minutes

Villa began the season with a new look air tight defence, but having faced four of last season’s top five in quick succession their goal difference has understandably taken a big hit. Paul Lambert’s low possession, backs-against-the-wall style doesn’t help, either, as they often sit back and invite teams on to them.

1. Chelsea – 55.5% of goals conceded in last 15 minutes

Despite virtually running away with the title already, the Blues have shockingly conceded over half of their goals in the latter stages of games this season, as demonstrated against Manchester United this weekend. Is there a case for Jose Mourinho’s men switching off towards the end of the game? Current evidence suggests there is.
