Some pretty bizarre statistics have been released today on the fastest Premier League players this season by the Daily Mail, courtesy of EA Sports.

EA Sports work closely with the Premier League, and record in-depth metrics of every match, including the maximum speed players reach.

This term, these ten stars have recorded the fastest maximum speeds, but speedsters like Raheem Sterling, Aaron Lennon and Eden Hazard are nowhere to be seen in a list dominated by centre-halves!

10) Joey O’Brien – West Ham – 35.46 km/h

O’Brien has largely struggled to get in the Hammers starting lineup this term due to loanee Carl Jenkinson’s encouraging form.

9) Craig Gardner – West Brom – 35.49 km/h

Gardner arrived from Sunderland on a free in the summer, and has been ever-present in the Baggies midfield.

8) Nathan Dyer – Swansea – 35.53 km/h

The rapid winger is arguably the only player on this list we’d have expected to be in the first place! His excellent form has led to discussions about a potential England call-up.

7) Alan Hutton – Aston Villa – 35.54 km/h

Another defender in the top 10, Hutton has enjoyed a solid start to the season with the watertight back four.

6) Mohamed Diame – Hull City – 35.68 km/h

The African midfielder provides boundless energy and dynamism in the centre of the park.

5) Connor Wickham – Sunderland – 35.68 km/h

Wickham is more regarded for his aerial ability and his hold-up play, but this shows he can shift too! 4) Steven Nzonzi – Stoke City – 35.82 km/h

Nzonzi prides himself on his tenacity and work-rate in the middle, and is one of the first names on Mark Hughes’ team-sheet as a result.

3) Joe Ledley – Crystal Palace – 35.91 km/h

Another player not at all regarded for his speed, the Palace defender has racked up the third highest top speed this season.

2) Ritchie de Laet – Leicester City – 35.94 km/h

The former Man United youth player has played all nine of the newly promoted club’s fixtures this term, putting in a particularly impressive performance as the Tigers best his former club 5-3 a few weeks back.

1) Phil Jagielka – Everton – 35.99 km/h

No other player in the flight has reached a faster top speed than Everton’s 32-year-old centre-half! If Premier League fans were asked to guess whose name would be on the top of the list, we’re pretty sure that virtually none would have predicted the England international.
