With the latest round of Premier League fixtures now over, save for an intriguing Monday night clash between QPR and Aston Villa, we have picked out the worst XI of the weekend after disappointing displays from Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur:

GK) Vito Mannone (Sunderland)

Things aren’t looking up for hapless Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone – the Italian conceded eight as his team were destroyed at Southampton last week and this time around Mannone presented a goal to Alexis Sanchez with an awful piece of control.

RB) Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)

Dier had a relatively quiet first half for Tottenham at White Hart Lane but was as culpable as anyone for their second half collapsed, being caught out by Sammy Ameobi for an equaliser inside ten seconds.

CB) Wes Brown (Sunderland)

Just as Mannone gifted Alexis Sanchez a goal with a horrible mistake, so did centre back Wes Brown – his hopelessly underhit backpass presenting the Gunners with a simple first half goal.

CB) Marcos Rojo (Manchester United)

Rojo has struggled to make an impression as the main centre back at Old Trafford since signing from Sporting Lisbon this summer – he was targeted by Chelsea here and gave away possession far too cheaply.

LB) Sebastian Pocognoli (West Bromwich Albion)

It was one of those afternoons for Alan Irvine’s Belgian left back, he was run ragged all afternoon by the pace and trickery of Yannick Bolasie and it wasn’t a surprise when the former Standard Liege man conceded a penalty.

CM) Joe Allen (Liverpool)

The loss of Welsh midfielder Joe Allen to injury in recent weeks has, in part, been blamed for the poor form of Liverpool – but his return to action did Brendan Rodgers’ side few favours against Hull City as Allen was dreadful.

CM) Daley Blind (Manchester United)

Blind had perhaps his worst game in a United shirt so far, tasked with screening the back four but mostly catching the eye for his constant inability to retain possession.

CM) Fernando (Manchester City)

Fernando was dreadful for City as they were overpowered by West Ham at Upton Park, with the Brazilian comfortably losing the midfield battle to the inspired former Arsenal star Alex Song.

ARM) Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur)

Captured everyone’s imagination in the Europa League this week with his stunning Rabona goal against Asteras Tripolis but offered nowhere near as much spark and creativity against Newcastle.

ALM) Juan Mata (Manchester United)

Mata is clearly trying his best to make an impression for United but simply hasn’t got started at Old Trafford yet – was very much on the periphery of yesterday’s draw with Chelsea.

SC) Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

The Bosnian international’s performance in attack for City at Upton Park was a complete non-event, his hold up play was dreadful and Dzeko never looked like scoring a goal.
