Reliable Merseyside based paper the Liverpool Echo has named five of the goalkeepers the Anfield club could be considering when the winter transfer window opens in January.

Simon Mignolet has endured a tough start to the season, and many Liverpool fans want the Belgian shot-stopper to be replaced at the nearest opportunity.

Could any of these five sign for the Reds, and would they be an improvement on the 26-year-old?

5) Kiko Casilla  – Espanyol

The keeper most heavily linked, Casilla gets in the Spain squad, but has yet to win a first cap due to David de Gea and Iker Casillas above him in the pecking order. He’s tall, commanding and excellent with the ball at his feet – having developed at Real Madrid before signing for Espanyol in 2007.

4) Timo Horn – FC Koln

Germany has a habit of producing excellent young goalkeepers, and Horn is the latest on the impressive production line. The 21-year-old conceded only a goal per game in the German second tier in 2013/14, and has made the step-up to the Bundesliga look easy this term with FC Koln, keeping four clean-sheets in as many matches so far.

3) Mattia Perin – Genoa

Perin is a feisty and (at the moment) inconsistent keeper, but his talent is undeniable. He’s only 21-years-old, but already starts for his Serie A outfit Genoa. Perin prides himself on his excellent shot-stopping and vocal presence, but he perhaps isn’t the experienced option most Liverpool fans would prefer right now.

2) Vincent Enyeama – Lille

Enyeama is in his goalkeeping prime aged 32, and he’s started this season in excellent form for Lille in Ligue 1. Last term, he racked up 11 consecutive clean-sheets more than any other stopper in Europe’s top five leagues.

1) Asmir Begovic – Stoke City

An experienced and commanding Premier League goalkeeper, many believe it’s time for the Bosnian to make the step-up and move to a Champions League side. He’s far more adept at dealing with crosses than Mignolet, but is perhaps slightly less agile, although Liverpool fans would forgive this if Begovic improved their diabolical record of conceding at set-pieces.
