Here are six such players.

Luis Suarez (Liverpool/Barcelona & Uruguay)

Yes he bites people but that shouldn’t preclude him from a nod in FIFA’s 23 man ‘short-list’, we are after all talking about the Premier League’s top scorer last term and a player who also provided more than his fair share of assists in 2014.

Arturo Vidal (Juventus & Chile)

Played a key role in Juventus Serie A title triumph and surely worthy of a nod.

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal & Wales)

Gunners star was back to his best during portions of 2014, scoring the winner at the 2014 FA Cup final to boot.

Luka Modric (Real Madrid & Croatia)

Midfield maestro has been in inspired form in 2014, playing a prominent role in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph and must be one of the first names on Carlo Ancelotti’s team-sheet.

Sergio Aguero (Man City & Argentina)

Won the Premier League with Man City and has racked up no less than 21 goals for club and country in 2014 and that from only 26 starts.

Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich & Germany)

Won the World Cup and the Bundesliga but still didn’t make it onto the short-list, crazy.
