Five Tottenham Stars Who Could Be Axed – Potential Man United And Liverpool Targets On The Way Out

Which Tottenham Hotspur stars could be on their way out in January, and which Premier League clubs could be interested?
Things are reaching breaking point at Tottenham Hotspur, with manager Mauricio Pochettino now blaming the pitch for the team’s issues.

The squad is full of talented players, many bought for big money, but few have performed since Spurs’ big spend last summer and Pochettino will want to sell some of these flops to raise money to bring his own players in.

Which players could be on their way out and which Premier League clubs could be in line for a bargain if they pick up these stars while their stock is low?

5) Jan Vertonghen – Manchester United, Arsenal

Vertonghen is a former Ajax captain and has proven quality. He is a classy operator on the ball, a solid defender, and flexible enough to play at centre-back or left-back.

His refusal to sign a new deal has lead to him being gradually frozen out by Pochettino, but clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal will know that his quality is still there, even if it is confined to the bench.

Any big club that needs a defender should be interested.4) Erik Lamela – Liverpool

The former AS Roma star showed his incredible technical ability in scoring an amazing rabona last week. Will likely get until the summer to prove himself, and then be shifted for far below his value.

Brendan Rodgers may back himself to be the man to turn round the player’s fortunes, much as he has done with Philippe Coutinho.

3) Roberto Soldado – Southampton, Newcastle United

After being linked with him all summer, Pochettino’s links to Southampton continue to fuel rumours of Jay Rodriguez’s arrival in January.

Soldado has plenty of talent and the physicality necessary for the Premier League and the Saints might consider asking for him as part of a swap deal as cover for Graziano Pelle.

Their squad will certainly be short on strikers if Rodriguez goes.2) Paulinho – Chelsea

The Brazilian midfielder’s poor performances are a total mystery. He was twice voted Brazilian League player of the year before his move, and was strongly linked to Chelsea all summer.

Jose Mourinho will believe that he can turn the player’s fortunes around, and may let go of John Obi Mikel and pick up Paulinho.

Whoever does buy the Brazil international will likely be able to get him far below his true value.1) Vlad Chiriches – Sunderland, Everton

The Romanian was initially considered a success at White Hart Lane, and played a lot of minutes under Andre Villas-Boas at the start of last year.

His performances have declined however, and he is struggling to get back into the side.

There is talent there however, and if he’s let go in the summer, a team like Sunderland or Everton who are looking for a young defender could be landing themselves a serious bargain in the long term.
