Liverpool travel to a resurgent Newcastle United in Saturday’s early kick-off, looking to continue the form that has seen them take eight points from their last four Premier League games, and progress in the League Cup.

Brendan Rodgers’ side currently sit in eighth place, just two points adrift of the top four, despite their difficult start to the season – which has already seen them suffer three defeats.

They will have been boosted by Tuesday’s comeback win over Swansea City, which featured goals from two struggling summer signings – Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren.

Rodgers will hope that the former is able to shake off the knee injury he suffered during the pre-match warm-up on Tuesday, which reduced him to being a late substitute in the game itself.

Newcastle have won their last two league games – against Leicester and Tottenham – to move out of the relegation zone, and up to 14th place in the table, with four points less than their opponents.

Alan Pardew will be hoping to continue his revival on Saturday, despite the Magpies having not won a game between the two sides since April 2012.
