Tottenham Player Ratings For League Cup Win Over Brighton, With Erik Lamela Crucial After Coming Off The Bench

Tottenham 2-0 Brighton – Erik Lamela and Harry Kane scored the goals as Tottenham secured progress into the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup. They were frustrated for long periods by their Championship opponents, but class showed as the game wore on.

GK) Michel Vorm – 6

Couple of decent saves, but had a fairly comfortable night as Tottenham dominated long period of the match.

RB) Kyle Naughton – 7

Put in some dangerous crosses and was a constant threat down the right hand side.

LB) Ben Davies – 5

Looked very ordinary in comparison to Naughton, and wasted several good opportunities to provide chances.

CB) Federico Fazio – 5

Was caught out a couple of times by Kazenga Lua Lua, and was lucky a mistake did not lead to a goal.

CB) Jan Vertonghen – 6

Captained the team in the second half, and put in a decent shift throughout as Tottenham kept a much needed clean sheet.

CM) Benjamin Stambouli – 7

Looked impressive at the heart of Spurs’ midfield, and could have earned himself a Premier League chance.

CM) Moussa Dembele – 8

A dominant performance from Tottenham’s senior midfielder, who impressed throughout the evening.

RM) Aaron Lennon – 5

Captained the team in the first-half, but was withdrawn at half-time in place of Lamela.

LM) Andros Townsend – 7

Linked up well with the strikers, and showed how crucial he can be to Tottenham creating chances.

ST) Harry Kane – 7

Got his seventh goal of the season, and looked good alongside Soldado.

ST) Roberto Soldado – 7

Wasn’t able to find the net, but it was definitely an improved performance from the Spaniard.

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino – 7

Got the result he was after, with the goal early in the second-half crucial to the eventual victory.

Subs:

1) Erik Lamela – 7 – An impressive second-half performance, topped off by a goal.

2) Nacer Chadli – 6 – A late replacement for Townsend in the final ten minutes.

3) Paulinho – 5 – Looked sloppy in his short time on the pitch, giving the ball away a couple of times.
