5) Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

The Belgian is the first of a few shocks, with his goalscoring record nowhere near some of the other contenders. He’s at 100/1 some betting companies, having scored four goals in sixteen club appearances so far this season.

4) Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

The 28-year-old has been in fine form this season and there have been calls to make him only the second goalkeeper to have ever won the award after Lev Yashin in 1963.

3) Diego Costa (Chelsea)

The striker has been in fine goalscoring form over the last year, carrying on his Atletico Madrid form with new club Chelsea. Despite this, third is still a very high spot for the 26-year-old to be inhabiting.

2) Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)

The Argentine makes a shock appearance in second. His recent form has been great, but even so, he is 50/1 with most bookmakers and very unlikely to win the real thing.

1) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

The Portuguese superstar is odds on to win the Ballon d’Or and for good reason. With 49 goals in 47 appearances in 2014, it will be a surprise if he doesn’t take the award.
