Five Goalkeepers Real Madrid Could Target To Replace The Out-Of-Form Iker Casillas Including Chelsea And Man Utd Custodians

Who could be the long term figure to don the Real gloves?

Whilst Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti continues to persevere with the shaky Iker Casillas in goal, despite the summer signing of Keylor Navas from Levante, it seems increasingly likely that neither of the current incumbents of the Real Madrid gloves will be the club’s long term option between the sticks.

Recent press reports have linked the club from the Spanish capital with a number of goalkeepers – here are five that could be targeted as they look to bring in the man to take over from long-serving Casillas:

Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur)

The most recent reports have suggested that Real are lining up a £20m January bid for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has firmly established himself as one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the Premier League, if not the world, since moving to North London from French club Lyon.

Petr Cech (Chelsea)

He may not be the most long term option available to Real, with Cech every bit as experienced as Casillas, but the Chelsea man’s form has not fallen off a cliff in the same way as the Spaniard’s and he could well be targeted, with some reports even suggesting a potential swap deal involving Sami Khedira.

Kiko Casilla (Espanyol)

Whilst Real don’t seem entirely convinced by their last goalkeeper signing from lower down in La Liga, in former Levante man Navas, they are reportedly interested in the £8m capture of Espanyol star Kiko Casilla, who has been one of the best stoppers in Spain for the last couple of seasons.

Asmir Begovic (Stoke City)

The Premier League is probably the league to visit for goalkeepers right now – and Stoke City’s Bosnian international stopper Asmir Begovic is one of the best around. Agile and commanding, it is no surprise that Real have been linked with a £15m move for the former Portsmouth man.

David de Gea (Manchester United)

Perhaps the most ambitious mooted Real goalkeeping move regards Manchester United star David de Gea, with the former Atletico man reportedly identified as their number one long term target to replace Casillas. He would cost a huge sum to prise away from Old Trafford, however, despite new contract talks having cooled in recent months.
