Manchester City face arch rivals Manchester United this weekend in a crucial Premier League clash – but what would it look like if you picked a best lineup from these two eternal foes and leading Premier League lights? This is our combined XI:

GK) David de Gea

A controversial choice, perhaps, but we would argue that de Gea’s displays for United this season have seen him edge slightly ahead of Joe Hart.

RB) Pablo Zabaleta

The Manchester City man, usually a model of consistency and class, has been slightly off colour in recent weeks – but is still streets ahead of Rafael.

CB) Vincent Kompany

The City captain is a defender of the calibre of which United can currently only dream of, he would walk into their side.

CB) Eliaquim Mangala

Mangala may not have been in the greatest form since joining City, but he has been no worse than opposite number Marcos Rojo and has the potential to be much better.

LB) Aleksandar Kolarov

Kolarov offers more going forwards than teammate Gael Clichy and is currently a better player than United teenager Luke Shaw.

RM) David Silva

This may be playing him out of position slightly, but there is no way that the Spanish scheme could be left out of this team. A class act.

CM) Ander Herrera

It is still early days for Herrera at Old Trafford, but the former Athletic Bilbao man looks capable of playing a destructive role as well as offering plenty at the other end.

CM) Yaya Toure

Another City player who isn’t on top form currently, but who has too much class to leave out of this side, Yaya Toure has come in for some stick but is still a world class performer.

LM) Angel di Maria

The British transfer record was broken when United signed Angel di Maria from Real Madrid this summer – and so far the Argentina looks as though he could be worth the huge outlay.

SC) Sergio Aguero

Looks like the only man in the Premier League capable of challenging Diego Costa for top goalscorer, his performance against Tottenham recently was astonishing.

SC) Wayne Rooney

Rooney could return from suspension in this game and makes it into this team on account of his ability to drop deep, making him an ideal partner for Aguero.
