Predicted Tottenham XI Against Aston Villa: Topscorer Harry Kane To Start

Tottenham Hotspur visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Super Sunday. Here’s the team we expect Mauricio Pochettino to select…

Spurs are looking for their first away win in the league since the opening day, while Villa are aiming to end a horrible run of five matches without scoring a goal.

GK: Hugo Lloris

Michel Vorm kept a clean sheet in the League Cup against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, but Lloris has featured in Tottenham’s last 36 Premier League games, so he will return.

RB: Eric Dier

Kyle Walker is still injured, but Kyle Naughton made his return on Wednesday night, playing the full 90. Dier was rested in midweek and he should start at right-back.

CB: Younes Kaboul

Kaboul’s performances have been up and down this season, but he is the captain, so he will play.

CB: Jan Vertonghen

Vertonghen played the full 90 against Brighton, as did Federico Fazio. Vlad Chiriches was left on the bench in that game, but he can’t be trusted to play in the league. Vertonghen is fit enough to handle two matches in five days.

LB: Danny Rose

Rose has been one of Tottenham’s steadiest performers this season, keeping Ben Davies out of the team in the Premier League.

CM: Ryan Mason

Mason only made his Premier League debut at the end of September, but he is already a favourite at the Lane, both with the fans and Pochettino.

CM: Etienne Capoue

Capoue’s positional sense and defensive discipline make him a vital cog in Pochettino’s team.

AM: Christian Eriksen

Eriksen has yet to hit top form this season, but he is still Tottenham’s best player and his set-pieces could be vital.

AM: Harry Kane

Kane is still waiting for his first Premier League start of the season. He has scored seven goals in six Capital One Cup and Europa League matches. Surely Pochettino cannot continue to overlook him in the league? No, and he won’t. We expected Kane to start against Villa, most likely in the number 10 role, behind a lone striker.

AM: Nacer Chadli

Excluding Kane, Chadli is Tottenham’s leading scorer this season, with four goals. His pace and direct approach could be the key to catching Villa on the break. Erik Lamela could well be used as a super sub, just as he was against Brighton.

ST: Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor scored against Newcastle last weekend. It was only his second goal in 10 games, but Pochettino clearly likes him. The former Arsenal striker could really benefit from Kane playing around him.
