Loan players are becoming increasingly prominent in the modern game, with the vast majority of squads in the Premier League for the 2014/15 season including at least one player who has been temporarily borrowed from another club.

Whilst not all our successful, some of really hit the mark during the early stages of the season, with loan players have won man-of-the-match awards for Stoke City and West Ham United – here are the eight most impressive Premier League loanees so far:

Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea to Southampton)

Bertrand has a Champions League winners’ medal to his name – so it is perhaps no surprise that he has slotted perfectly into the Southampton defence, but the former Gillingham youngster’s displays at Aston Villa last season did not suggest such a smooth transition to life at St. Mary’s.

Tom Carroll (Tottenham Hotspur to Swansea City)

Carroll isn’t playing every game during his loan spell at the Liberty Stadium, but looks a tidy and accomplished midfielder when he does. Needs to step things up if he is to prove himself a Premier League player, however.

Victor Moses (Chelsea to Stoke City)

Winger Victor Moses is extremely unlikely to have a long term future at Chelsea – but Stoke City would be delighted to permanently sign a player whose pace and direct running has been integral to their solid start to the season under the management of Mark Hughes.

Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal to West Ham United)

Allowing Carl Jenkinson to leave the club on loan when they had just six senior defenders always looked like an odd move by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger – but his solid and consistent displays at right back for West Ham will only be increasing the frustration of Gunners fans.

Andre Wisdom (Liverpool to West Bromwich Albion)

Another right back to have departed from a club who have significant defensive issues of their own is Andre Wisdom, who Liverpool allowed to join West Brom, where the England Under 21 international has caught the eye in Alan Irvine’s side during their recent run.

Alexandre Song (Barcelona to West Ham United)

It always looked like a coup when West Ham secured the season long loan signing of former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona – and so it has proved, with the Cameroonian putting in a stunning display during the recent win over Manchester City at Upton Park.

Eduardo Vargas (Napoli to Queens Park Rangers)

Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas has taken his time to adapt to Premier League football since joining on loan from Napoli this summer, but impressive cameo performances against the likes of Liverpool have given Rangers fans real hope that he can be a difference maker for them.

Toby Alderweireld (Atletico Madrid to Southampton)

Another player whose signing looked like a genuine coup this summer, Alderweireld is a seasoned Belgian international who has played for the likes of Ajax and Atletico Madrid – he has used his experienced and quality to good effect since signing for Southampton.
