5) Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal

The centre-back hasn’t been out long, but his absence is already seriously damaging the Gunners’ trophy hopes and his return is vital. Without him they are playing Nacho Monreal at centre-back, not an ideal set-up for a club that should be challenging for the big trophies.

4) Jay Rodriguez – Southampton

The Saints have had an incredible start to the season, and their run goes on and on. They started equally well last year before injuries began to mount and they fell away. The fact that one of their star players is close to a return will be a huge boost to the fans.

3) Michael Carrick – Manchester United

United fans are keen to move on from Carrick, who is far less glamorous than their attacking new signings. Whatever your thoughts on the midfielder though, there’s no doubt that he offers something different to both Daley Blind and Ander Herrera – even if the main thing he offers is fairly tepid ball-retention.

2) Theo Walcott – Arsenal

The Gunners have been far too dependent on Alexis Sanchez to make things happen this season, and need Walcott back as soon as possible to offer some alternatives. A Danny Welbeck – Sanchez – Walcott front line is frighteningly pacey, and the North Londoners could do with more options upfront.

1) Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool

Mario Balotelli has now scored two goals in his three months at Anfield, but has essentially been a total disaster. Sturridge’s speed and work-rate are essential to the way the Reds play, and they desperately need their talisman back now that Luiz Suarez is gone.
