There is much focus on Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers at the moment after so much promise from last season has quickly turned sour with a sharp decline this term, but where does the current Reds boss rank among his predecessors in the Premier League?

Liverpool have never won the Premier League title, with their last league win coming all the way back in 1990, and they have gone through several managerial changes to try and aid that, with some more successful than others…

7) Roy Hodgson

Win percentage: 41.94%

Honours: 0

In a disastrous short-lived role as Liverpool boss at the start of the 2010/11 season, Roy Hodgson looked out of his depth managing a top level club, despite doing such a fine job in his previous job at Fulham. A managerial appointment to forget for the Merseyside giants.

6) Graeme Souness

Win percentage: 42.04%

Honours: FA Cup 1991–92

A great player for Liverpool, but not one who made a smooth transition into management at Anfield, Graeme Souness didn’t do so well in the league but managed an FA Cup win in his time in charge in the early 90s, though this silverware came just before the actual start of the Premier League.

5) Kenny Dalglish

Win percentage: 47.3%

Honours: League Cup 2011–12

A Liverpool legend from his time at Anfield as a player, but this second spell in charge of the club did not bring a great deal of success, despite a rather fortunate penalty shoot-out win over Championship side Cardiff City in the 2012 League Cup final.

4) Roy Evans

Win percentage: 51.77%

Honours: League Cup 1994–95

A manager who started brightly and introduced some good attacking football to Liverpool after a poor spell under Souness, but still only the League Cup to show for his efforts in a four-year spell in charge of the Reds.

3) Brendan Rodgers

Win percentage: 56%

Honours: 0

No trophies yet for Brendan Rodgers, and some desperately poor signings, though it is hard to ignore that the Northern Irishman looks to be on the right track at Liverpool, even if this season isn’t going to plan after the big blow of losing star player Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the summer.

2) Gerard Houllier

Win percentage: 52.12%

Honours: FA Cup 2000–01; League Cup 2000–01, 2002–03; FA Community Shield 2001; UEFA Cup 2000–01; UEFA Super Cup 2001

The most successful Liverpool manager in terms of trophies for a long time, Gerard Houllier may not have been that popular, but he did bring results, particularly in the early part of his Reds career, even if things tailed off towards the end of his time in charge.

1) Rafael Benitez

Win percentage: 56.29%

Honours: FA Cup 2005–06; FA Community Shield 2006; UEFA Champions League 2004–05; UEFA Super Cup 2005

A man who continues to divide opinion wherever he goes, but there’s no doubt that Rafael Benitez has been Liverpool’s most successful manager in the Premier League era, guiding them to glory in the Champions League and FA Cup in his first two seasons with the club and turning them into genuine title contenders with the best win percentage of any of the bosses on this list. Should they ever have let him go?
