Six United players van Gaal needs to get rid of quickly.
Although there are signs of improvemt at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal, it is clear from yesterday’s defeat at the hands of rivals Manchester City that changes to this team are still needed.

The Red Devils made plenty of big-name signings in the summer, but these six players still look like members of the squad at Old Trafford who could be massively improved on:
1) Chris Smalling
A player who has not developed as hoped, Chris Smalling may well have put his Old Trafford career into serious doubt after his stupid red card against City in yesterday’s defeat, which clearly angered Louis van Gaal.
2) Phil Jones
Another English prospect who doesn’t have much time left to start delivering, Phil Jones has not been good enough for United so far and could soon be replaced by big names such as Mats Hummels.
3) Juan Mata
A player currently out of favour with van Gaal, Juan Mata has not been at his best since joining United from Chelsea last January, and it would be tempting to sell if an offer came in from Juventus or AS Roma this January.
4) Ashley Young
A highly disappointing player, it is a miracle that Ashley Young is still at Old Trafford after looking an awful signing for some time now since joining from Aston Villa in 2011.
5) Antonio Valencia
Not really a right-back, not really a winger, Antonio Valencia is simply not good enough in any position for United and has no place in this current team. Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado seems a likely replacement this January.
6) Anderson
An awful player despite making such a great start to life at United as a youngster, Anderson’s time at Old Trafford is surely up after years of mediocre displays.
