With only one player from each team, here is the Champions League best XI based on current form:

GK) Danijel Subasic – Monaco

Monaco are one of just two teams to have kept clean sheets in all three of their games so far, thanks in large part to the man between the sticks.

RB) Danilo – FC Porto

Porto have been dominant in their group so far, and their defence has been solid throughout the competition. A host of defenders could have made it into the team, but Danilo just makes the cut.

CB) David Luiz – Paris Saint-Germain

Currently topping a group that contains Barcelona, PSG have been far better in the Champions League than domestically. David Luiz was heavily involved in his new side’s win over Barca and has settled in superbly since his move from Chelsea.

CB) Sokratis Papastathopoulos – Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund are the only team other than Monaco to have kept three clean sheets so far, and with a regularly changing defence due to injury Sokratis has been a mainstay. With their thoroughly woeful domestic form the Bundesliga side may have to win the Champions League if they want to be involved next year.

LB) Kieran Gibbs – Arsenal

Although the Gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their three games, English left-back Kieran Gibbs has been solid throughout the campaign. Scoring the late equalising goal that gave Arsene Wenger’s side the platform to push on and grab the win against Anderlecht, he has been vital to their success this season so far.

CM) Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea

A fantastic summer signing by Jose Mourinho, Cesc Fabregas has been consistently pulling the strings from midfield for his new side. Getting on the score-sheet as well means he has to make it into the Champions League XI.

CAM) Andres Iniesta – Barcelona

Arguably not the best player at Barcelona this season, but with competition so high in other areas Iniesta makes the cut. With a number of assists to his name already in the competition, the Spaniard  has been excellent for the La Liga side.

CAM) Koke – Atletico Madrid

With four assists and a goal in the competition already, Koke has been dominant for Atletico Madrid this season.

RW) Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich

Having been involved in much of the good work from Bayern this campaign, Robben has been one of the stand out players in the competition. With two goals and an assist he has been in deadly form the Bundesliga giants.

LW) Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid

The Portuguese star’s form has been unbelievable of late, scoring for fun in all competitions. Three goals and an assist gets him into the Champions League XI above the rest of an unstoppable looking Real Madrid side.

ST) Luiz Adriano – Shaktar Donetsk

Doubling the goals tally of any other player in the competition so far, Adriano has bagged six goals in just three games. He was a one man wrecking crew in Shaktar’s 7-0 demolition of Bate Borisov, and could be set for a record breaking competition if he continues in this vein.
