Manchester City are being heavily linked with German superstar Marco Reus, and could compete with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for his services next summer.
The Daily Mail reckons City are more than prepared to meet his £19.5m buy-out-clause, and will tempt him to come to England with £200k-per-week wages.
If the brilliant attacking midfielder does sign, here’s a jaw-dropping XI City could deploy next term.
GK) Joe Hart
Unless he encounters a miserable run of form, Hart will likely be City’s keeper for years to come.
DR) Pablo Zabaleta
The Argentine is one of the best right-backs in the top flight, and still has time on his side.
DL) Gael Clichy/Aleksandar Kolarov
Clichy and Kolarov are very similar in terms of ability, and are rotated throughout the season.
DC) Vincent Kompany
The club captain is the first name on the team-sheet when healthy. He marshals the defence expertly, and inspires his side.
DC) Eliaquim Mangala
Mangala will likely have cemented a place in the side by next season ahead of Martin Demichelis, the veteran centre-back. If Mangala fulfils his potential, he and Kompany could form the best defensive partnership in the top flight.
MC) Fernandinho/Fernando
Both Brazilian anchorman provide steel and energy to the midfield, and having cost £47m between them, they’re unlikely to be replaced.
MC) Yaya Toure
Now over 30, Toure still has the ability to win matches for City, although expect him to be used in an increasingly deeper role as he enters the final years of his career.
AMR) Samir Nasri
Nasri’s been injured much this term, but provides creativity from either wing when fit. James Milner is often used when City need tenacity, or Jesus Navas when they need pace.
AMC) David Silva
The mercurial playmaker performs best when he’s in a central role, and the addition of Reus will allow him to play at no.10, with the German cutting in from the wing.
AML) Marco Reus
Reus scores and created goals aplenty from the left wing, and will inject a frightening attacking dimension into the City lineup. For £19.5m, he’d represent one of the best bargains of recent times.
FC) Sergio Aguero
Aguero is one of the world’s very, very best strikers. Only injuries have held him back so far in England, but with Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic backing him up, City have plenty in reserve.
