Arsenal Duo And Three Former Chelsea Aces Feature In The European Team Of The Week

Well respected website Sport Witness have named their European Team of the Week for the past seven days and there are some familiar faces from the Premier League featured.

GK – Diego Benaglio, Wolfsburg

It was a good week for the Bundesliga side who recorded an impressive 4-0 away victory over Stuttgart in the German top tier.

RB – Calum Chambers, Arsenal

This young defender has looked solid since a summer switch from Southampton and capped off a good display against Burnley on Saturday by scoring once and assisting another.

CB – Joel Veltman, Ajax

The Dutch champions also recorded a  4-0 win, this time over Dordecht and Veltman looks to be the latest talented defender being developed in the Eredivisie.

CB – Angelo Palombo, Sampdoria

A 3-1 victory over Fiorentina sees Palombo’s side sit in fourth in Serie A and the 33-year-old is enjoying his new role at the back.

LB – Heiko Westermann, Hamburger SV

Back to Germany now and Hamburg earned a much needed three points against Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a resolute defensive display from Westermann and co.

RM – Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal

Another new Gunners signing and Sanchez has also looked in good shape since his £35m summer move from FC Barcelona and netted twice against the Clarets.

CM – Steed Malbranque, Olympique Lyon

The midfielder who never seems to age, Malbranque helped Lyon beat Nice away 3-1 despite being 1-0 down up until the 64th minute and the Frenchman got on the scoresheet.

CM – Kevin de Bruyne, Wolfsburg

Not deemed good enough by Chelsea in January, de Bruyne has been thriving in Germany and put in a Man of the Match performance at the weekend with a goal and two assists.

LM – Florent Malouda, Metz

Another Blues reject now and in Ligue 1 this midfielder helped earn his side a late win against Caen with a stoppage time goal and also assisted another in a 3-2 triumph.

ST – Alexandre Lacazette, Olympique Lyon

This striker has been greatly impressing this season and bagged two more goals at the weekend.

ST – Franco di Santo, Wolfsburg

Completing a trio of those who spent time at Stamford Bridge is di Santo, who is also the third Wolfsburg player and netted a brace on Saturday.
