Are these the five biggest name players Jose Mourinho has sold while in charge at some of Europe’s biggest clubs…?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

In exchange for Ibrahimovic, Inter Milan acquired Samuel Eto’o and £56.5m. While the giant Swede is now regarded in the football echelons, he was a flop at Barcelona, whereas Eto’o won the Champions League with Inter during his first season in Italy. Outstanding business – although Ibrahimovic is arguably the best centre-forward Mourinho has ever worked with.

Juan Mata

Many thought Chelsea foolish to sell their twice Player of the Year to a Premier League rival, but for £37.1m, it’s proved to be an astute piece of business. Mata has failed to truly discover his best form with the Red Devils, and struggles to get into the starting XI when all are fit – although with Chelsea he was unplayable.

Arjen Robben

Although any club in the world would love to have Robben playing for them now, Chelsea managed to sell the Dutchman for huge money (£24m) to Real Madrid. He suffered with injuries in Spain, but still won La Liga – before truly reaching his potential in Germany with Bayern Munich.

David Luiz

Truly exceptional business from Chelsea and Mourinho. The Blues acquired £50m for a centre-back whose defensive ability has been called into question on countless occasions, but he makes this list because he’s the most expensive footballer in the history of the game.

Frank Lampard

One of Jose Mourinho’s favourite players during his fist stint in charge of Chelsea, Lampard fell out of favour last season, before the Portuguese boss allowed him to join New York City on a free. It backfired on Chelsea though, with the veteran loaned to rivals Manchester City and bagging against the Blues during a top flight fixture earlier this term.
